Zenless Zone Zero: First Impressions Review
Last Updated: July 31, 2024
Zenless Zone Zero is the latest gacha game released by Hoyoverse in their quest to insert themselves into every niche in gaming. Does this game stack up to the expectations set by Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail? It definitely has some flaws, namely the lack of difficulty in the story mode as well as the baffling decision to have some of the cutscenes play out in the form of TV puzzles (pictured below) which destroys the pacing of the story, and makes it hard to be invested into what is happening in those moments, when all we’re seeing is icons moving around on a TV.
The TLDR is Ellen Joe and Zhu Yuan are our top picks, which is unsurprising with them being the first 2 limited banner agents, with Von Lycaon, Grace Howard, and Rina Sebastian, a little bit behind them as the standard banner agents. Out of the A-Rank agents, Ben has a lot of pairing power with Grace, Soukaku fits perfectly in a team with Ellen and Lycaon. Check out the video for a full in depth breakdown of all of the picks!
While the TV levels themselves are not issues, as they are simply replacing the fetch quests and other filler quests often associated with gacha games, using them in place of cutscenes, especially when just minutes before in the same mission we had a fully animated cutscene to meet Corin, it feels jarring. Especially when the rest of the game demonstrates the effectiveness of its comic book like cutscenes, decisions like this seem very questionable.
As of right now, Zenless Zone Zero has 17 playable characters: 8 S-Rank agents (or 5 star agents) and 9 A-Rank agents (or 4 star agents). For a full breakdown on which S-Rank agents are the best check out our video guide:
